Quotes to Help You Stay Calm

Writer's picture: Zoë ParisZoë Paris

I'm having a hard time controlling my anxiety while Covid-19 runs rampant throughout the world. I already have OCD, so my anxiety skyrockets when a pandemic is you know...happening. Most of the time I'm fine, as long as I'm inside my home. But as soon as I step outside...BOOM. I convince myself that I've inhaled the virus and will infect my entire household. So, to help myself calm down, I've been reading quotes like these to get out of my catastrophe thinking and into a mindset of calm.

So, here they are (all sourced from here):

“Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.” Deepak Chopra

“People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar.” Thich Nhat Hanh

“You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.” Dan Millman

“Anxiety is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.” Arthur Somers Roche

“Nothing diminishes anxiety faster than action.” Walter Anderson

“You can’t always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside.” Wayne Dyer

“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

There are more quotes on the website linked above; I wanted to provide a few here to hopefully calm your nerves if, like me, you find yourself spinning into anxious thoughts. Take care of yourselves, talk it out, stay home as much as you can, and wash your hands.

We'll get through this.
